After several hours of meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party was unable to decide on whether to grant waiver to some governorship aspirants from Adamawa State, who recently defected to the PDP from the opposition party.
The party also shifted the screening of the 14 governorship aspirants which was supposed to hold in Abuja on Thursday, to Saturday.
It also said the names of those who will screen the aspirants would be made known on Friday.
Granting of waiver will enable the aspirants, who applied for waiver to participate in the screening exercise ahead the party’s primaries slated for September 6.
Section 50 (9) of the PDP constitution says, “There shall be a minimum of two year membership span for a member to be eligible to stand for election into any public office, unless the appropriate executive committee gives a waiver or rules to the contrary.”
Those who applied for the party’s waiver already are the former Chairman of the Economic andFinancial Crimes Commission and former Presidential Candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria in the 2011 Presidential election, Nuhu Ribadu, the former Military Administrator of Lagos and Borno States, Buba Marwa and the former governorship candidate of the ACN in the 2011 election, Marcus Gundiri.
