The prime minister of Lesotho has fled to South Africa alleging a coup by the army and claiming that his life is in danger. While speaking to the BBC, Thomas Thabane said he would only return to Lesotho as soon as he knows he is not going to get killed.
Mr Thabane has since headed a unity government but suspended parliament session in June amid fueling in his coalition. He denied accusations that his actions had undermined his government.
According to him, he told BBC’S news hour programme he had been removed from control by the armed forces through illegal means.
The South African government described the situation as worrying and said the country would not tolerate unconstitutional change of government.
